Maintaining A Positive Attitude
Oh no! Here comes another one! When is this ever going to end? The answer is this will never end.
Life loves to throw us waves and waves of challenges. Sometimes they come one at a time, sometimes they come in five at a time. Better still, there are times they come in multiple directions, wanting to drown you. Once you overcome one, it will come another one. The fun part of it is they keep getting bigger and bigger.
Some wish that they never come across these waves of challenges. The challenges disrupts their lives, makes them weaker, contribute to their headache. They can’t have a peaceful time with all these challenges.
On the other hand, some welcome these challenges. They love these challenges. Challenges make their life full of meaning. They grew stronger from these challenges. These challenges gave them a purpose to live for. They feel happy with these challenges, they go head on with these challenges. It is a way they contribute their love to the world.
So challenges are always there. Some love them, some hate them. Some become weaker from them, some grew stronger. The things is it all depends on which side of the coin you are standing. What do I mean by this? Question is are you having more positive thoughts or more negative thoughts?
The negative thoughts look at challenges as obstacles or problems. The positive thoughts look at challenges as a way to grow. All of us has both positive and negative thoughts. You asked yourself, do you tend to think more positively or negatively? When a new challenge appear, do you see limitation or possibilities?
After hanging around with many successful people in my network, it’s true that successful people tends to have more positive thoughts. They do have negative thoughts once in a while. I mean, come on, they are humans too. The difference between them and many not so successful people is they are able to switch the negative thoughts to a positive ones very quickly.
How are they able to turn negative into positive so quickly? What do they know that others doesn’t know? This is the real secret to their success. Knowing how they do that can elevate your life to the next level. With this knowledge, you can maintain a positive attitude in life. You can create the kind of life you desire. Now, let’s discuss what is really going on in their brain?
It starts with consistently training the mind. Be aware of what is going through your mind. Catch yourself when you have flashes of negative thoughts. One of the method I learned to overcome negativity is from Master Your Mind, Design Your Destiny.
When you start catching yourself having negative thoughts, your negative thoughts will start to reduce. Simply because your soul wants to feel good. Having this awareness means your soul is awaken. Your mind will then provide you with more positive thoughts, so that your soul can feel good.
Having trained your mind doesn’t mean you are invulnerable. Even Superman has a weakness. Incidents that may trigger your negative thoughts can still occur.
Few months back, I was really depressed. I screwed up a training session. I couldn’t engage the audience, I didn’t have good feedback from the team. I was even thinking of giving up the career. It hit me so bad that I couldn’t work the next day. I didn’t do anything the next day beside watching DVD.
With the training of the mind, I caught myself with all the negative thoughts flashing through. I knew I shouldn’t be feeling depressed. I knew I had to be positive, but I just couldn’t pick myself up.
But the same night, I told myself, enough is enough. I had been depressed for the whole day, doing nothing the whole day, it’s time to call an end to it. I made a decision, a commitment. I told myself, “I would not allow myself to fall into this depression because of this incident again. It’s time to rock and roll tomorrow. When I wake up tomorrow, it’s a new day, and I don’t want to feel this way again, period.” My life went back on track again when I woke up the next day.
So really, we are still humans with emotions. At times, we do drop back to the negativity line. Embrace that negative feeling, be aware of what’s happening in you. However, make a decision to climb back up. Set a deadline for yourself to have that feeling. Get over it once you are onto that deadline.
Maintaining a positive attitude is not that difficult. I do agree that the initial part is slightly tougher. Training your mind is not easy, but once you form an habit of being aware of your thoughts, the rest is a piece of cake.
