Success Is A Habit

I WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL!” I shouted. What happened? Why did I do that?

This happened in 2003 when I attended a seminar. In actual fact it was conducted in Mandarin. One of the activities was to shout what you want to be with full commitment and desire.

One principle that I learned was Success Is A Habit. However, at that time it didn’t occur to me that this principle is so important. At that time, it was just another success principle, I didn’t really take any special notice on it.

Little did I know that this lesson becomes one of the important factors that changed my life.

I’m someone who enjoys freedom very much. My day was disorganized. I woke up when I feel like it. When I don’t feel like working, then I don’t work. I sleep whenever I like. Basically I don’t plan a time for everything. It really got me nowhere. My days was ruin, I don’t feel good about this kind of disorganized lifestyle. I didn’t attract good things as well.  How do you attract good things when you don’t feel good and your days are ruin.

Somehow, some day I was awaken. I decided not to live my life in that way anymore. I wanted to feel great, I wanted to attract good things into my life, I wanted success, really really wanted it.

I can’t remembered when, but I do remembered that a mentor shared with me this about 10 years ago. He said, “Life should be 80% planned habit, 20% flexibility”. My life was the other way round. That awakening day was the turning point. I was going to systemize my daily life.

I wake up between 7:30 to 8:00 am daily. That’s when I do not have any training engagement. Have my breakfast and I will head to the gym. Everyday I will exercise except Saturday – my rest day. In the gym, I listen to audio book on the Ipod. After exercising, do my positive affirmation which takes only 10 minutes. Then I start my work day.

I also invest 30 – 60 minutes a day reading, learning or reflecting. Reading has become a huge habit for me. That’s the easiest and cheapest way to learn from someone else experiences. Of course because of the nature of my work, I have to be constantly reading and learning.

In the past I used to sleep at 2 or 3 am. Now I make a point to sleep before 12 am. Seriously, mentally I feel much alert, physically I feel much better.

When I start to follow this habit, I achieved more, do more, interestingly I also attract good things to my life. Why do having a good habit attract good things?

Save Effort and Energy

Firstly, once your daily life becomes a habit, you save lots of energy deciding on unnecessary events. You no longer have to struggle in deciding should you wake up at 8am or 11am. You no longer feel guilty about not working or waking up late. Everything becomes “automated”. With the conserved energy, you can embark on bigger things. Since 80% of your life is “automated”, then you should also save time.

This is self-explanatory. “Automated” means it should save you time. You no longer need to sit on a chair, looking at blank space, with your brain fighting should you go to the gym. I admit there were times I have to struggle with that for 10 minutes before deciding. I don’t struggle with that anymore. The most important point of having a success habit is the Universe works for you.

Law of Attraction

I am not the expert in Law of Attraction (LOA). Just that I’ve watch The Secret and read lots of books on this topic, I believed that the Universe wants you to be rich and successful. But everything about you must be in congruent before you can receive it.

Your body, mind and soul must be align with the success you want. Your intention, your physical being and your faith must be in line. Out of line, and you will feel struggle.

I know it’s tough to get into a success habit initially. It’s like starting a car from a up slope. It takes a lot out of the car, it taxes the engine more. But once the car gets going, it becomes easy.

Once you get it going, it becomes easier and easier. You will discover that you are flowing in life by then.
